Admission to Brandeis

Admission to Brandeis August 14, 2013 Brandeis University has gone test optional. Admission to Brandeis is under renovation in a way. The university has chosen to pilot test a test-flexibility program. Through this test-flexible program, students who apply for admission to Brandeis after July 1, 2013 will have the option of not having to submit their test scores. Brandeis now joins the ranks of colleges like Bates, Bowdoin, Middlebury, Oberlin, New York University, and several others to be among colleges deemed test-optional. Many of these test-optional colleges believe that they can attract a stronger incoming class by not requiring that students submit SAT and/or ACT scores. Will they be able to? Brandeis will soon find out. We suspect that Brandeis will experience a surge in applications as a direct result of going test-optional. So many students with great grades who performed poorly on the SAT or ACT will now consider applying to Brandeis and many of these same students would not have considered applying to the school prior to this announcement. In this way, Brandeis will attract a different type of applicant. With more students applying to Brandeis, the university will invariably be more selective in its admissions process this year. And we put the word selective in quotes because a larger applicant pool and, as a result, a lower admission rate does not make a school more difficult to get into as strange as that may sound. C students getting denied admission dont make it more difficult for the A- student to get in. What do you think of the changes with respect to admission to Brandeis?
